Facebook cover competition!

Facebook recently launched Timeline for Pages and we quickly put up a new cover photo. However, we think our community of uTalers can probably do a better job!

If you want your design to become the uTales’ cover photo at http://www.facebook.com/uTales, simply send a file or a link to info@utales.com.

Every now and then, we will pick a new winner who will get their design of uTales’ cover photo featured on our Facebook page for at least a week!

uTales’ collaboration with Opal publishing house

For the upcoming Swedish launch, uTales is proud to partly be partnering with Opal Bokförlag. Opal is an independent Swedish publishing house focused on high-quality children’s books, and the partnership is a one-time initiative for the upcoming launch of uTales Sweden.

In a statement shared today, Opal clarifies that they have entered this partnership with uTales mainly to find new ways of marketing their books and to facilitate sharing and promotion of the books in digital channels. The partnership covers only a selection of Opal books that are suitable for the uTales ebook format.

We are very happy and proud to be working on this one-time partnership with Opal!

A charity ebook for kids, created by a community

Somedays are special, and today is very special. We are very proud to announce that the worldwide community of ebook authors and illustrators that truly is uTales, have come together for a very special ebook project. Initiated by Swedish illustrator Anders Lindholm, the project has seen more than thirty uTalers from fifteen different countries create a digital ebook for kids – together!

This is a very unique thing indeed! The ebook is called The Friendship Alphabet and is all about teaching the alphabet to children, while promoting friendship. It also showcases different storytelling and illustrative styles from all over the world. The creative friendship behind this project has been amazing to witness, and even more gratifying is the fact that it has all been done in the name of charity. All proceeds from the ebook will support Pencils of Promise and their work to build new schools in developing countries.

Check out The Friendship Alphabet on uTales now!

Thank you to all the amazing uTalers taking part in this project!

I Do Believe in Fairies: On the Value of Childhood Fantasy

We want to continuously provide the uTales community with inspiration for both readers and creators of ebooks for kids. This is a guest post by Magdalena Ball and we hope it will inspire. Enjoy!

I Do Believe in Fairies: On the Value of Childhood Fantasy

When my daughter grows up she wants to be a fairy. She’s confident she’ll succeed, after all, she already has a wand, wings, pretty dress and long hair – all the necessities for fairyhood. Should I discourage her? Tell her in a firm voice that there are no such things as fairies, and for that matter, no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny either? Is my acquiescence in her belief perpetrating a lie? No way. I am of the firm belief myself that not only are notions like fairies, Santa and the Easter Bunny good for kids, but that there is actually a certain amount of truth behind these glitter dusted traditions. Here’s why. Continue reading
